The dramatic setting of Devil’s Slide became even more spectacular on this summer evening sunset on Montara Beach. A thick dark cloud cover hovering closely above an orange sky silhouetting the namesake rocks and breaking surf below created a truly memorable transition into the coastal night. The hills of the Marin County Coastal Headlands and Point Reyes Seashore lay on the horizon in the background. Devil’s Slide is a Coastal Promontory on the San Mateo County Coastline just south of Pacifica and north of Montara. The restless cliffs are locally famous for both their beauty and the landslides that periodically close narrow, winding highway 1, which tightly clings high on the steep ocean edge slope. The changeable vision of Devil’s Slide is always striking, and has been the location for movie scenes.
